About Luíza

Throughout college, masters and course in Canada, I met many English language students who understood the written language perfectly, they could even understand the spoken language perfectly, but they didn't speak it. When they needed to speak, they would freeze, stutter, pause a lot to choose their words, or their incorrect pronunciation made it difficult to be fully understood... And that really bothered me. In the Linguistics classes in college I learned that learning grammar is not enough to become fluent. It is necessary to practice all language skills in a constant and structured way: the famous "listening, speaking, reading, and writing". English courses focus a lot on reading and writing. That's why people finish the course feeling like they're fluent, but when they need to actually speak English in their jobs or with a native, they just FREEZE. That's what bothers me and that's what motivates me. For more than ten years, I have been working as a translator and teacher in schools and also individually and online, to fill this gap and this demand that regular English courses cannot meet: FLUENCY.

About the lesson

I believe that, in order to acquire fluency, the language needs to be assimilated in an organic and natural way, always in context, using real situations. It is possible to learn by talking! That's how we learn our mother language and that's how we can learn a foreign language. But that takes practice! And that's what I'm here for - to provide this practice in a guided and fun way. I love music, literature, games and pop culture and I always try to incorporate that to my classes!
