Hi there!
My name is Renee Yam and I received a Bachelor's of Music in French Horn Performance. I have a huge passion for teaching students and helping them find their love for the French Horn. I am an energetic teacher who is there to create a fun environment for the students and will do my best to show them how fun it is to get into this instrument. It is also important for me to provide loving but critical feedback so that they are not offended, but also accept that there are things they may need to fix in order to improve.

I approach lessons with a goal of helping my students find joy in playing the French Horn and also to help them with the basics and fundamentals in learning the instrument. A typical lesson plan includes starting with exercises that will get them prepared for the act of playing the instrument, meaning breathing exercises and warm ups on the mouthpiece. Starting with the basics and warm ups is important to prepare us for the strength and understanding of playing the instrument itself.I will also play along with the student most of the time for them to improve their hearing and matching pitch and tone with me. I will then ask them to play some scales with me
What sets me apart from others is my love and passion for teaching students. I find joy in helping them build that love and connection with the French Horn as it is such a beautiful instrument. My goal is to grow with the students in this journey and to see their progress. The levels I can teach are elementary (5th grade) to high school level.
