About Hov

My name is Hov, and I teach chess online and in person, at a local children's development center. I especially love working with beginners and children, as they're usually most passionate about learning. My goal is not just to help you make good moves, but I also help you understand those moves and build your own chess intuition, so you improve naturally and confidently. I’m flexible with scheduling and happy to work with students from around the world. If you’re just starting your chess journey or want to help your child develop a new passion, I’d love to help.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized and perfect for beginners! We’ll use my analysis site (concealed information) to spot your most common blunders, weak squares and best openings, then turn that into a weekly training plan so you know exactly what to work on between sessions.

Perfect! My son (7 yo) loves his chess lessons with Hov and looks forward to them each time! Hov has a calm voice that sets the steady tone for each lesson. He explains chess concepts in a way that is easy to understand and helps my son to build upon his current knowledge of chess and think beyond. Hov is patient, attentive, and keeps my son engaged for the entire hour each class.

My goal was to find chess coaches who are passionate about chess AND can expertly assist children with delving deeper into the art of chess while keeping them motivated when a challenge or a complex strategy presents itself. When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?
I started playing chess when I was 6, thanks to a friend of my grandpa who introduced me to the game. Later, early online chess websites and books (there were no chess videos yet!) pulled me in even more, and the passion just kept growing!
Which artists or works affect you the most?
Garry Kasparov’s chess inspires me the most. His fierce and intense presence at the board, and unmatched excellence are truly captivating.
What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?
Patience is essential. Improvement doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, consistency, and practice for concepts to truly click.
What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?
Focus on one goal at a time. Progress comes from clear direction and effort toward a single target.
How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?
Chess challenges me intellectually and keeps me constantly motivated to improve. It gives me a strong sense of purpose and excitement.
What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?
I built my own website that turns your games into interactive visual analysis, so you can see your strengths and weaknesses and track your progress in a fun way. It’s especially great for adult learners who enjoy data, clear feedback, and structured improvement.
Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?
Yes! I have a 7-year-old student who is progressing incredibly fast and already mastering advanced concepts with ease. Can't wait to see him become a famous chess player!
