About Lily
I’m a current freshman at Grinnell College, attending on a full-tuition merit scholarship. I’m majoring in Gender Studies and Political Science. In my free time, I enjoy creative writing, exploring with friends, collaging, and participating in local activism related to children’s welfare policy.
Qualifications: I attended a public high school in Portland, OR, where I took 12 IB classes and was extremely involved in local youth activism. I was an editor-in-chief at two different high schools and was a prominent political organizer and leader with Portland Youth Climate Strike, Multnomah Youth Commission, and the Northwest Oregon Legislative Fellowship. I am very familiar with opinion, academic, and formal writing related to the social sciences.

Philosophy: I understand that educational outcomes must be improved holistically. I grew up with many extenuating circumstances that affected my education, and I am committed to supporting my students. I'm happy to help students with time management strategies, editing assignments, identifying supportive resources, and extracurricular applications. I believe that creating a comfortable environment that fosters confidence is necessary for young people to learn. I believe in experiential learning, so I prioritize helping with assignments and real-world challenges.
Previous tutoring: I worked with other high school students, learning to speak, read, and write in English, as a student mentor for a semester and as a speech and debate captain for Literary Interpretation for English Language Learners. I coached the first- and third-place LIELL state champions of 2023 and the third-place LIELL state champion of 2024 through 1-on-1 sessions to select material, write introductions, and provide feedback on rehearsed performances. As a student mentor, I worked one-on-one with 10 students to develop their English proficiency, time-management skills, and communication with teachers during FLEX periods.
