About Fiona
I bring over 3 years of guitar teaching experience and a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering with a Guitar Focus. My focus is on jazz and blues improvisation across multiple subgenres. Lessons are structured to support school students, hobbyists, and professional musicians. Students work on modal scales, arpeggios, and dominant seventh theory to deepen musical understanding. Bebop phrasing and stylistic nuance help build a distinct improvisational voice. I have guided learners from Intermediate to Advanced levels, including those preparing for professional gigs. My teaching emphasises hands-on, goal-oriented practice. Students learn to translate theoretical concepts into fluid musical ideas. Lessons are supportive, engaging, and designed to inspire creativity. Technical skill and personal expression grow together. I encourage exploration while maintaining structured learning. This approach combines practical guitar maintenance with tone development and performance readiness. Students learn string changing, basic setup, and electronics troubleshooting. Effects pedals and amp settings are incorporated for sound shaping. The Campfire Strummer gains skills for smooth outdoor and informal playing. The Worship Leader receives guidance to maintain consistency in live worship settings. Lessons focus on building both technical skill and confidence with equipment. Students practise tuning, action adjustment, and intonation correction. Knowledge of signal chains and pedal interaction is included. Each session encourages hands-on learning and experimentation.
