About Rickey
Teaching started for me because music theory felt dry without a fretboard in my hands. I spent my early days at Berklee realizing that the best players learn by doing rather than reading charts. My studio in Chicago helps everyone from beginners to advanced players handle acoustic technique and songwriting.
Can you handle a pentatonic scale yet? Guitar maintenance and grade exam prep form the backbone of my technical foundation. Fingerpicking patterns often reveal the gaps in a student setup that need immediate tuning. Do you want to see how these blues shapes function in real time?

You should expect a pace that feels fast but keeps your fingers moving comfortably while I provide steady feedback on your rhythm. Since finishing my degree at Berklee, 9 years of teaching have taught me that playing songs is the only way to retain complex music theory information.
My studio setup allows us to move between rock and modern styles effortlessly so you get the full picture of why a specific Hendrix lick works inside a John Mayer chord progression. Achieving an 8.0 rating in student satisfaction remains my goal because it means the techniques are actually sticking for you. The structure underneath our session flow relies on getting you to improvise from day 1 instead of waiting for a manual to tell you the rules. Nothing beats the feeling of a clean bridge transition that finally clicks into place.
