Beginning as a self-taught musician, I try to leave the "proper way to teach music" as an open-ended conversation, based on the student's needs and what will ultimately keep them interested. I wandered down so many different avenues to get to where I am now, so why not encourage the same? I believe branching out onto new instruments, learning theory, learning how to record, and digging into the history of some of your favorite music is all just as important as practicing your instrument.
I've been playing guitar for the last 17 years. I started off self-taught at a young age, but eventually studied music theory and played with jazz ensembles in high school. From there I continued building a strong foundation in college, as well as branching out in audio and learning other instruments. I now hold a degree in Music Production, as well as years performing with different groups - live and in studio. My skills are versatile and deeply rooted in a foundation as a player, first and foremost.

I met Mike in college where I was a jazz major and he was a production major. Right away we clicked musically and he took me on a journey of first learning how to record. In recording and mixing my first EP and album, Mike was there with me every step of the way, paying very close attention to every detail with extreme care. Not only was he a great engineer, but he is a great teacher who will explain things in detail in a way that you can best understand. Recording with him was always a lesson and an opportunity to learn more about recording. In recent times Mike has been giving me DAW and audio engineering lessons and it has opened my eyes up to a whole new world. Mike knows exactly how to listen to the student and see how the student learns best to create a path of learning specifically for them. Mike is very clear and organized and patient which are just some of the many qualities that make him a Superprof!
Mike's a great teacher! It's evident that he's a passionate musician who has a deep understanding of music theory and really cares about the success of his students! He always comes to my lessons prepared with notes, diagrams, chord sheets, etc. based on what I've requested to learn. I definitely recommend taking lessons with him!
