My approach to teaching is to give students a three pronged approach. First, a musical understanding as their foundation, second an emphasis on ear training and third a direct application of these to the technique of playing the instrument musically, integrating all of the above into their playing. Finally, listening and responding to my students,
giving them the voice to express their goals and desires is primary. Having fun while learning is always my objective as this creates motivation and excitement as my students progress.
I am a guitar player with a foundation in music theory and improvisation. My experience is both academic and practical. I have taken music theory in college, and have played in several working bands. I have given lessons for 7 years. My total student count is in the range of 50 to 70 students. My current students range from beginner to advanced. The high school students have used my instruction in their school music classes to earn honors.
Steve is a guy who I would recommend to anyone interested in learning guitar. I started about a year ago with him and I’d never played before. Now I’m amazed with how far I’ve come. He’s made learning for me easy and fun.
I've known Steve for five years as a friend and have been taking music lessons from him for one year. Steve is a great guitarist but maybe an even better teacher. He has such a passion for music and for people. He is comfortable teaching a neophyte like me or an advanced musician. I've improved greatly since starting lessons from Steve and have enjoyed getting to him better too. If you become a student of Steve's, you will be well-pleased.
I'm a novice player and was frustrated at the plateau I was on. I didn't feel like I was having those ah-ha moments where you know you made a breakthrough. 6 months of playing with Steve gave me the foundational knowledge I was lacking and helped shrink the fretboard. Great guy and great teacher, can't recommend enough for anyone from a beginner to seasoned player
We met each other when they moved into the house next to mine, and our families hit it off right away, I was looking for a guitar teacher and he just so happened to have years of experience teaching and playing the guitar, and I have been his student ever since. Steve is a wonderful teacher who is very willing to work with you to find what fits right with your schedule, and what you want to learn on the guitar. His style of teaching is very personalized to each and every student, with a emphasis on learning the building blocks of music. He is a good teacher if you are just starting out, a middle of the road student who has already had some prior experience, or a skilled student looking to learn new and interesting things on the guitar. I recommend him because I have been his student for close to 3 years now and I still learn something new every time I have lesson with him.
Steve is a natural born teacher. His enthusiasm for music has always been evident. He has performed in many venues, with Acoustic , classical and electric guitar music. He tailors lessons to students needs, and his students LEAEN. I know this as a former student.
