About Ran
I am a professional guzheng artist and educator based in Montreal, with over 20 years of experience and a degree from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. I currently teach at Centre des Musiciens du Monde, offering both in-person and online lessons. My teaching draws from traditional Chinese repertoire such as High Mountain, Flowing Water, with a strong focus on tone, clarity, and Zen-like expressiveness. I also perform and teach modern and technically demanding works, as well as explore improvisation and cross-cultural styles. In Montreal, I am an active performer with a growing list of concerts in 2025, including the Carnet de la Soie series (St-Jax, Côte-des-Neiges, Pointe-Claire, Centre Sanaaq, and more), performances at Studio 303, SAT, and collaborations with McGill artists. My work often integrates Chinese music with Turkish makam, Indian ragas, and even Baroque and Renaissance material — using the guzheng as a bridge between traditions. I love sharing this journey with students of all levels.

I offer guzheng lessons tailored to each student's interests and goals — whether you're a complete beginner, preparing for conservatory exams, or seeking to explore cross-cultural styles. With over 20 years of experience as a performer and educator (graduate of Sichuan Conservatory of Music), I combine a strong classical foundation with flexible, modern approaches. My teaching is both structured and creative: I focus on solid technique, musicality, and expressive interpretation, while also encouraging curiosity and personal expression. A typical lesson includes warm-ups, technical exercises, and repertoire work. We may also explore improvisation, music theory, or the historical context of pieces, depending on your interests. I’ve taught both children and adults, and my students include those aiming for Central Conservatory grade exams, public performances, or simply playing for joy and wellness. Lessons are available in English, French, or Mandarin. Tell me your musical goals — I’ll help you get there. Let’s make guzheng part of your voice.
