About Djibril

I completed my hifz of the full Qur'an, and I'm now studying Arabic full time, which is why my lessons run in UK evenings.

Teaching started at home. I have a lot of younger siblings and I've spent years sitting with them through their reading and memorisation. That's where I learnt to explain things properly rather than just say "that's wrong" and move on.

I'm patient and I don't rush anyone. If you're a parent, I'll tell you honestly how your child is doing rather than what you want to hear.

About the lesson

I'm a hafiz, and I teach Qur'an one-to-one online: reading for complete beginners, tajweed, and memorisation for students starting hifz.

My approach is that correcting a mistake isn't enough on its own. When a student misreads a letter or cuts a madd short, I fix it and then explain why it's read that way, so they can catch it themselves next time instead of waiting for me to point it out again. That's how I've taught my younger siblings for years, and it's the difference between a student who improves between lessons and one who only improves during them.

Lessons are 30 or 60 minutes over video call. Thirty works better for younger children. Adults usually want the hour. I teach both. Children from around six upwards, and adults learning to read for the first time, which plenty of people do and there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

The first session is a short assessment so I can hear where you are and tell you honestly what needs work.

For children, I ask that lessons take place on a family device in a shared room, with a parent free to sit in at any point.
