I solely believe on hands-on approach. Writing a code is similar to explaining a complex concept to a kid. Once you understand how to express your thought flow in code, then coding it becomes an easy job. My flow is to teach the basics, make you understand what the concept is actually about, then let you play around with the coding based on the concept till you get a good understanding.
