About Hannah
I have over 6 years experience teaching flute and recorder both privately and as a peripatetic teacher in both Primary and Secondary schools. I work with students of all ages and standards, ranging from age 4 to adults and I'm confident in finding the right path for each student.
I have a 100% success rate in preparing students for exams (ABRSM & Trinity) but also understand that they don't suit everyone. I will happily work with students towards other goals that aren’t professionally examined and find alternate ways to motivate and inspire.
I am also very experienced in working with students with special needs (autism, ADHD, visual impairments, physical disabilities, dyslexia, Asperger`s etc).
I truly believe that learning an instrument should first and foremost be fun! I strive to make every bit of the learning process enjoyable whilst also working towards goals to provide a sense of achievement. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions and thank you for taking the time to read my page.
I have been privileged enough to perform with some of the UK’s leading orchestras including, the Philharmonia, English Symphony and Hallé Orchestras as well as the innovative and imaginative Shadwell Opera, The Little Orchestra and Wilderness Orchestra at Wilderness Festival.
Equally at home as a soloist, I have performed concertos (Bernstein’s Halil and Vivaldi’s Concerto in G Minor) and given solo and chamber recitals across the UK and Europe. Furthermore, I have worked on several CD recordings including ‘Mahler: Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen’ with the Royal Academy of Music Soloists Ensemble directed by Sir Trevor Pinnock CBE (Linn Records) and on a Film Score for ‘Museum’s of the New Age’ at the Science Museum, London.
I believe that my performing experience and training has given me a well-rounded and extensive understanding of the professional music world and I love being able to share this with my students.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up-to-date DBS and also have an Introduction to Safeguarding Certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Academy of Music (MA)
Samuel Coles, Kate Hill and William Bennett
Royal Northern College of Music (BMus)
Laura Jellicoe and Katherine Baker
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach such a diverse array of students. Ranging from 5 year olds who are complete beginners to music to adults who have full-time jobs and want to take up a hobby. I also run school orchestras and flute ensembles. This has provided me with experience at managing large groups, developing ensemble playing and other key elements of general musicianship that are sometimes hard to experience in a one-to-one lesson. I really support my students and always strive to help them grow into confident and creative musicians.

I am a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who is dedicated to sharing music with students of all ages. I strongly believe that being a versatile teacher is the key to successful learning and love to adapt lessons to individual students' needs.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I primarily teach the flute and recorder for all standards, from beginners to advanced pupils. I also teach music theory and can prepare students for the music theory examinations.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2014 with a Distinction on the MA in Performance programme and also the prestigious Dip RAM award for an Outstanding Final Recital. Prior to this, I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, where I received a First Class BMus (Hons) Degree.
- How much do you charge?
I generally charge £40 an hour for both flute/recorder/theory tuition dependent on travel. I can also teach 30 and 45 minute lessons if necessary and I am happy to offer consultation lessons to those wanting to try it out.
- Where do you teach?
I mostly teach from home and at students' homes and I am willing to travel in London, although extra travel costs may apply. I currently live in SW London and can teach from my home during weekdays.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I mostly prepare students for the ABRSM examinations but have also previously worked with students towards the Trinity Guildhall exams.
As much as I encourage these exams, I understand that they do not suit everyone so I can happily work with students towards other goals that aren't professionally examined.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning an instrument should first and foremost be fun! I strive to make every bit of the learning process enjoyable whilst also working towards goals to provide a sense of achievement. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions and thank you for taking the time to read my page.
