About Héloïse
I am a professional harpist and I have been teaching the harp for six years, having taught beginners as well as advanced students, children and adults.
After completing a Diploma in Musical Studies in Paris, I pursued a Bachelor in Harp Performance at the Curtis Institute of Music, and then continued my studies at Yale where I completed my Master's Degree.
During my studies at Yale I was a harp teacher for the undergraduate students, as well as teaching assistant for the Hearing and Analysis Course.

I enjoy teaching very much because making music brings me great joy, and I am eager to pass it on to others. From my own experience and that of my students, I have developed a teaching method based on the following principles:
-establishing a goal with the student
-creating an independent and daily practice routine
-working on hand, arm and body position
-developing hearing and analysis skills
A typical lesson starts with exercises or études and is followed with the study of one or two pieces, depending on how long the lesson is. I encourage my students to ask themselves questions when discovering the music, so that they may develop their own musical voice, as well as become more independent in their personal practice time. My goal for students is that they eventually become their own teachers.
I pay a great deal of attention to hand and arm position when playing. During my studies, I took Alexander Technique lessons, which helped me become a more souple and relaxed player. It’s very easy to get all tensed up when playing an instrument, especially the harp, which is why I am very attentive to my students’ position at the instrument.
I have taken part in many orchestral auditions and solo competitions which have enabled me to develop a specific preparation method for them. I am happy to help my students prepare for competitions, entrance exams, summer festivals or youth orchestra auditions. Having passed Grade 8 in harp with a distinction, I can also help students preparing for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music exams.

Heloise has been teaching our daughter on the harp. Even though it is virtual, Heloise has done a wonderful job forming an enjoyable teaching partnership with our daughter with great results. She has also sent our daughter numerous additional resources to enhance our daughter's enjoyment and learning. A very dedicated, personable professional.
My daughter has been studying with Héloïse for 18 months. Héloïse is kind, encouraging, and each week pushes my daughter to excel. I believe my daughter is getting a fabulous well-rounded education as Héloïse balances technique, musicality, theory, and memorization. I am very impressed with her ability to teach remotely and help my daughter progress, despite not being in person at the moment. She is an incredibly talented musician, but also a gifted teacher and I am so happy that my daughter has the chance to study with her.
Héloïse is a kind, knowledgeable, and patient instructor. She is especially attentive to her students’ form, using creative visuals and analogies to help her students remember how to play properly to ensure that they develop healthy habits that will not lead to injury. Héloïse caters to her students’ interests and meets them at their level; although she is an incredibly accomplished musician, she welcomed me to the instrument as an adult beginner and always made me feel as though I were capable of playing the harp. I only have positive things to say about Héloïse; take lessons from her, and you will certainly be in good hands!
Heloise provides a type of instruction that is just so fitting to the nature of the instrument that you can't help but feel like you are getting the full harp experience. She expertly blends a kind of light hearted and approachable method to musical education alongside a sense that you can, if you do the work, actually play this rather mysterious musical sculpture that sits beautifully, but intimidatingly in your living room. I couldn't read a note of music, and, in the most literal sense, didn't even know which end to start from with my modest student harp. Yet, within 4 months, she had me working through challenging etudes, practicing small pieces, and sight-reading during our lessons. I am no protege, and things remained slow, but Heloise's mastery of her instrument makes one believe that they can, in fact, learn to play the harp competently, and even with a small amount of their instructor's grace.
