My style is to resolve the problem by the practical approaches rather than focusing on the layman methods. I simply relate the problems with the real world and then try to find the solutions and trust me its the best method to sustain the knowledge in your mind for a long time.
When you approach layman, you only get 1-2 solutions but when you approach practically to a problem it results with multiple solutions along with knowledge
