About Chay
I am a consultant and researcher based in Dubai, working across strategy, governance and education. My training is a Master of Bioethics from Harvard Medical School, a master's in business innovation and entrepreneurship, and a bachelor's in biological anthropology from the University of California, Davis. I have designed and delivered executive programs for organizations across heavy industry, energy, transport and government, contributed to a national government's strategic framework, and published seven articles in the UAE national press on education, technology and the future of work.
I have taught MBA and EMBA modules at an international business school in Dubai, to classrooms of experienced managers who had usually been in the working world longer than I had. It was the most demanding audience I have stood in front of and easily the most useful thing I have done for my own speaking. You cannot bluff people who already know the subject. You learn to be clear, to be brief, and to be comfortable when someone disagrees with you in front of everyone else.
I teach public speaking because of a pattern I kept noticing in that room and in every room since. The person with the best idea very often loses to the person who explains theirs more clearly. I have watched capable students talk their way out of university places they deserved, and competent professionals lose arguments they were right about, purely because of how the case was made. That is a fixable problem, and fixing it changes what a person is able to do with the rest of their ability.
I also run an admissions advisory, where a significant part of my work is preparing candidates for admissions abroad which includes interviews that determine where they spend the next four years. Nervousness under real stakes is something I deal with constantly rather than theoretically.
What you can expect from me is empathetic directness. I will tell you honestly what is working and what is not, because vague encouragement wastes your money and your time. I prepare properly for every session, I keep to schedule, and I would rather set fewer priorities and see you genuinely improve at them than hand you a long list you will never work through.

Good speaking coaching needs two halves. There is craft that has to be taught properly, and there is practice that only works by doing it. Sessions with me hold both, and the balance shifts depending on what you are working on.
The taught side matters more than most coaching admits. There is real substance behind persuasive speaking and it can be learned rather than absorbed by trial and error. How arguments are actually built and where they collapse. Why some structures hold an audience and others lose it in the third minute. How rhetorical devices work and when they sound clumsy. Reading a room and adjusting mid-delivery. Handling a hostile question without conceding the point or becoming defensive. The difference between persuading someone who is neutral and someone who has already decided against you. I have taught negotiation, leadership and ethics at postgraduate level, and I bring that material in directly, because a student who understands why something works can apply it to situations I never prepared them for.
The practical side is where it becomes yours. We work on your real material: the interview, the presentation, the debate, the pitch. You deliver, and I let you finish rather than interrupting, because interrupting trains you to expect rescue. Then I give you full feedback. Everything I noticed, structure through to delivery, with an honest assessment of what is working and what is not. We prioritise together, rebuild, and you deliver again in the same session. That second attempt is where most of the improvement actually lands.
Every session includes a pressure round. Interruptions, sceptical questions, an audience that is not on your side. People seldom come undone during the speech they rehearsed. They come undone when something unexpected arrives.
Between sessions I set focused work and I give written notes so you have something concrete to review.
I will always tell you plainly where you stand and why. Vague encouragement feels kind and helps nobody, and you will discover the truth on the day regardless.
