About Achille

Education:
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (control systems) from EPFL, one of the world's top engineering universities. Master's in EE and a double Bachelor's in Physics and EE from Cleveland State University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and as engineering valedictorian.

Professional and teaching experience:
I've taught undergraduate physics and EE laboratories, led graduate lab sessions in advanced control systems during my Ph.D., and tutored privately for years, from first-year fundamentals through advanced university courses. Alongside teaching, I've spent my career applying these exact subjects in research and industry at CERN, Eaton, and Apple, and at CERN I trained colleagues on the control tooling they relied on. So I teach the theory rigorously and can also show you where it actually gets used.

Subject expertise:
Electrical Engineering: circuit analysis, control systems (continuous and discrete time, stability, controller design, Bode plots, root locus), signals and systems, FIR and IIR filters, amplifier circuits, and state space linear systems.
Physics: university mechanics and electromagnetism.
Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, calculus 1 and 2, differential equations, and linear algebra.

Teaching methodology:
I start by finding where you are and what's blocking you, since confusion usually traces back to one or two missing foundations rather than the topic itself. From there I build the concept up with clear explanations, intuition, and worked examples, then move you into solving problems on your own. I focus on the reasoning behind each method so you can handle unfamiliar questions instead of memorizing steps that fall apart when the wording changes. I adapt the pace and depth to your goal, whether that's an exam, a grade, or genuine understanding.

My approach is built around making difficult ideas feel intuitive. I start by finding out where a student actually is and what is blocking them, because confusion almost always traces back to one or two missing foundations rather than to the topic itself. From there I build the concept up step by step, using clear explanations, visual intuition, and worked examples before moving into independent problem solving. I put a lot of weight on the reasoning behind each method, since students who understand why something works can apply it to unfamiliar problems, while students who only memorize steps tend to come undone the moment a question is phrased differently. I adapt the pace and depth to your goal, whether that is passing an exam, lifting a grade, or building genuine, lasting understanding.

What sets me apart is the depth of real experience behind the teaching. I attended Harvard as a post-doc and earned my PhD at EPFL, one of the top engineering universities in the world, and spent years doing research at CERN, along with engineering work at companies like Philips. That means I'm not teaching these subjects one chapter ahead of you from a textbook. I've actually used control theory, signals, and applied math to solve hard problems in research and industry, so I can teach the theory rigorously and also show you how it works in the real world. Very few tutors can connect classroom material to real engineering the way I can, and that connection is often exactly what makes a concept finally click.
