About Karen
I have taught a range of levels from total beginners to further and higher education. The majority of my students have gone on to higher levels, especially to study photography at the university level, this is something I am particularly proud of. I have taught students with learning difficulties and mental health difficulties. Photography has helped me to express myself throughout my life and I firmly believe in the therapeutic nature of the creative arts. I have working mainly as a freelancer for nearly 20 years.

I teach practical photography both film and digital. I do this via demonstrations and setting tasks in person. I will critically analyse students' work and prepare them to examine and think creatively about their own work. I teach the basics such as composition and manual camera techniques as well as advanced creative techniques. I can also teach and support students with learning disabilities who may need additional support while studying Photography. I can help students with photography theory and essay writing if necessary. If you need help getting started with your new camera or you need help and guidance creating conceptual art. Whatever your level or needs are I will tailor how we work together to meet your needs.
I am a friendly teacher and easy to get along with. I do not dictate to my learners, rather I support students to be the best version of how they wish to work. I am extremely passionate about both photography and education and passing on my decades of experience working both commercially and therapeutically in this wonderful field of Photography and Fine Art. If you just want someone to go out shooting with, offer advice on getting the best out of your time or camera kit. All enquiries are welcome.
