About Shane
Elliot Bowers is an artist, educator, and doctoral candidate whose work bridges critical
theory and studio art practice. As a Fine Art instructor at College of DuPage and a doctoral candidate affiliated with the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, Bowers develops critical theory-based curricula that cultivate the “artist-philosopher” as a socially engaged practitioner. Bowers is a first-generation college graduate and community leader who is committed to mentoring emerging artists, supporting underrepresented voices, and fostering inclusive creative environments that connect rigorous research with public-facing practice.
Bowers advocates for interdisciplinary study at the intersection of
philosophy, visual culture, and sociopolitical analysis, thereby enriching the fundamental
curriculum. Their scholarship and work have been in exhibitions across the United States and
international spaces that engage questions of identity, erasure, and representation, with
particular attention to transgender experience and global cultural exchange.

I teach advanced lessons on drawing, ceramics, digital fabrication, and painting. I teach as a college professor to first-generation students, writing my lessons to bring the artist's voice out with the assignments while teaching them the process.
