Thanks for asking. This is an awesome question which we can discuss in great length, but I'll try and keep my answer short.
Sharing knowledge is vital for our species. It gives us self esteem and eventually will will bring peace.
It is vital for our species because we all have the urge to improve. Humans are explorers. We can't hang still on a branch and wait until next dinner time, we want to go out and do stuff. To be able to improve we have to gain new knowledge. So there is a choice: create all knowledge ourselves or 'trade' it. Learn from others and share what we know. It's a win-win situation.
