I have Iowa teaching licenses in K-6 and K-8 mathematics. I have taught 7th grade math through algebra for a total of seven years. I also taught math tutoring at the Sylvan learning center in Lawrence

About Peter
I have been a math teacher in grades 7 through algebra for seven years. I also have PhD in psychometrics. I enjoy reading, improving my teaching skills, golf, and cooking. I have two children. I have done a variety of jobs through the years that have helped me make connections for my students with the material they are being taught.

My teaching method is very focused on the individual's strengths and weaknesses. Strengths are used to improve weaknesses and to move the student forward in the subject matter.
Getting to know the student during the tutoring process is important to combine strengths with interests.
A typical lesson plan is very straight forward. Review and make sure there is understanding from the prior lesson. Introduction and then practice of the current lesson. If time and appropriate to the material practice other than rote to engage in understanding.
What sets me apart is my creativity in the presentation and practice of the material being studied. This comes partially from my experience and partially from getting to know the student.
My lessons would most likely be for students from 5th grade through algebra.
