About Azeem

My professional background began in IT and self-employment, but teaching has always been my real passion. I am now Head of Computer Science at a large independent school in the UK, teaching students from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. Alongside this, I am also Head of Computer Science at an international online school formally acknowledged by His Majesty the King.

Before moving into education, I spent several years working in industry, and I bring that real-world experience into my teaching so students understand how computer science applies beyond the classroom.

I am extremely passionate about helping students succeed in Computer Science. My teaching style is relaxed, engaging and discussion-based, while still being academically rigorous and grounded in strong theory. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas. Above all, learning should be enjoyable; if it isn’t fun and stimulating, then what’s the point?

About the lesson

As Head of Computer Science at a leading independent school, I bring both academic and real-world expertise into every lesson. I am also a Chartered Engineer with over 23 years of industry experience, which allows me to connect theoretical computer science concepts to real applications and strengthen long-term understanding and knowledge recall.

My teaching approach is built around evidence-based pedagogy, particularly model-based instruction and dual coding. This means complex ideas are broken down using clear models, diagrams, and structured explanations so students can understand concepts deeply and recall them easily in exams.

A significant focus of my lessons is exam technique. I work closely with students to understand the language and structure of exam papers across the major boards (OCR, AQA, Edexcel and CAIE). Students learn how to interpret command words precisely, structure their responses effectively, and recognise what examiners are actually looking for so they can consistently maximise marks.

Lessons are interactive, discussion-based and intellectually engaging. My relaxed teaching style helps establish a strong rapport with students, allowing them to ask questions freely, challenge ideas, and develop genuine confidence in the subject. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable thinking out loud and refining their understanding.

Ultimately, Computer Science should be exciting and accessible. I take great pride in helping students reach those breakthrough moments of understanding, the “I get this” moment, leaving them with a real sense of achievement and the motivation to keep learning.
