About Richard
Richard is a supportive, skilled and successful teacher of thirty years, having taught and led in leading independent and maintained schools across the UK and overseas. Whilst teaching in schools, he regularly tutored online in the evenings and at weekends. Richard has variously served as Head of English, Head of History and Director of Humanities, teaching English Literature, English Language and History at GCSE, iGCSE and A Level. The progress and value-added grades achieved by his students have consistently been amongst the strongest within the schools where he has worked. Currently, he is an examiner for AQA GCSE English Literature and a Senior Examiner for WJEC GCSE History. Previously, he has examined for AQA A Level History and OCR AS Level History. Richard spent a formative seven years at Brighton College (recently voted Independent School of the Decade by the Times; thanks partly to its outstanding GCSE and A Level results). Eight years of his career was spent at S. Anselm’s School (voted Tatler Prep School of the Year in 2021) and he also taught at Haywood Academy (a lead teaching school in a large Multi-Academy Trust in inner city Stoke on Trent). These experiences have meant that Richard has taught a range of students with diverse needs preparing them for examinations including 11+, 13+, Scholarship, GCSE, and A Level. Richard has supported students into Russell Group universities and successfully prepared students for scholarship examinations to first-rate public schools such as Eton, Harrow, Winchester and Oundle. He has also successfully taught disadvantaged students, students with special educational needs and students with complex social and emotional needs ensuring they can access the curriculum and achieve their educational and vocational goals. At all times he develops meaningful connections with students and adopts a warm approach.
