About Elissa

As a teacher with children of her own, I understand that learning can sometimes feel frustrating or overwhelming, especially when a student has fallen behind or is struggling with a particular concept. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and supportive. I believe that every student is capable of success when they are given the right tools, guidance, and confidence.

I strive to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. If a student does not understand something the first time, I am happy to explain it in a different way until it clicks. My goal is not only to help students improve academically but also to help them develop confidence in their abilities as learners.

If a child is struggling, it doesn't mean they can't learn; it simply means we haven't found the strategy that works best for them yet.

About the lesson

My goal is to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing as learners. Whether your child needs extra support in a challenging subject, help building foundational skills, or enrichment to stay ahead, I will tailor lessons to meet their individual needs.

A typical lesson begins with a brief review or "bell ringer" activity. This allows students to revisit previously learned skills or practice prerequisite concepts that are necessary for success with the day's objective. Starting with a review helps activate prior knowledge and build confidence before introducing new material.

Next, I use the gradual release model, often referred to as "I do, We do, You do." First, I model the skill or concept and think aloud as I work through examples. Then, students and I practice together or with a partner, allowing their peers and I to provide guidance and immediate feedback. As students gain confidence, they work collaboratively with a partner before transitioning to independent practice to demonstrate mastery of the skill.

At the end of each lesson, we reflect on what was learned and reinforce key concepts through review activities or fluency games.

These lessons are geared for upper elementary and middle school-aged students (grades 4-7).
