About John
Currently studying music education at Eastern Michigan University. Majoring in clarinet music education. Have taught a range of students previously from elementary to junior high. I have played clarinet for eight years, saxophone for two years, and have recently picked up flute. I also have enough experience in double reeds that I feel I could confidently teach them. I have worked previously with my students to upgrade their setup that they’re on within a manageable budget for the student, such as recommending brands or even just a place in general to buy a new clarinet, and I have even lent students some of my personal clarinet for a week or two at a time so they can feel the difference between a beginner and intermediate clarinet.

I recognize everyone skill level and where they’re at and help them to realize goals that they’d like to achieve in their musical ability. I then work with my students to get them to reach their goals. I feel this approach to teaching is much more satisfactory for the student rather than just assigning them homework after every lesson because when they choose the homework/goal they are trying to achieve, there’s a higher chance that they’ll succeed at that goal.
