Hello! My name is Mary and I have been a private tutor for over 10 years.
I received my PGCE from King's College London in 2002. I started tutoring in my final year of university and loved it so much that I have never looked back!
I offer Maths, French and German tuition and specialise in GCSE and AS/A-Level. I am also experienced in tutoring Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning at 11+ level.
My focus is breaking down tricky concepts into their basic elements - so that each student can gain thorough understanding. I like to take a step-by-step approach to learning - finding out how much the student already knows and then building upon that knowledge.
My philosophy of tutoring is that each student of mine should become fully confident in independent learning over time and be equipped with skills that they can use even when a tutor is not present.
I am proud to say that I have a high rate of repeat customers from word-of-mouth and from parents calling me back during exam season because of my calm, firm and knowledgable approach. My greatest pleasure has been seeing students who were once afraid of a subject now looking forward to completing questions with enthusiasm.
For me, no question is too basic to ask. I have a friendly, down-to-earth approach that puts students at ease. However, I like to balance a friendly approach with expecting each student to achieve their absolute best.
