About Jenni
I graduated 5th in my class at Del Norte High School and then attended Occidental College in Los Ángeles where I obtained a BA in the Sociology of Education. While in school, I taught reading in one of the first alternative schools in California, tutored students at the local high school and was one of two honors students allowed to conduct research for my senior project—. a comparison of two different approaches to teaching reading. I returned to NM after graduation and received my K-8 Teaching Credential and went on to obtain a Masters degree in Educational Foundations. One of my professors said in my letter of recommendation that I was the most qualified teacher applicant she had ever taught. I also took an additional 40 hours of coursework at UNM and more than 100 hours of professional development in teaching social studies through literacy.
I have developed countless curriculum units, home schooled my son who is gifted and has special needs, and taught a variety of subjects at Family School in APS. I also tutored several students through the years in Reading, Math and Spanish.
I love teaching kids, developing personalized engaging strategies for individual students, and sharing my love of reading, writing and words with all ages. I have always been an avid reader and currently read about 150 books each year. There is too little time to read all of the books I want. I am currently tutoring a second grade student through Oasis.

My approach to teaching reading is planning lessons and activities that relate to the individual’s interests and needs. This includes reading aloud to the student to develop fluency, helping with the selection of books to enable success, and using a wide variety of research-based strategies tailored to the individual. If a student is bored or avoids reading, it is my responsibility to make reading more fun.
