About Alastair

I have extensive teaching experience in schools as a Science teacher, specialising in Chemistry, and at university as a lecturer in Organic Chemistry. Enhanced DBS checked and approved tutor. I am a member of the Tutors Association. Over 400 hours tuition online. More than 20 years' experience teaching A level Chemistry. More than 14 years' experience teaching GCSE Physics and Biology as well as KS3 Science. More than 15 years' experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate organic chemistry. I have taught Chemistry, Biology and Physics to GCSE in schools for the AQA and the Edexcel IGCSE specification. At A Level I have taught the entire Chemistry course, my students have taken the AQA, Edexcel and OCR examinations and achieved the highest grades. I have helped students prepare for Oxbridge interviews through extension lessons beyond the A level specification, and coached students for technical interviews. I have also taught introductory chemistry for non-specialist undergraduate students, as well as organic chemistry and analytical chemistry to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have a BSc (Hons.) degree and PhD in Chemistry. I have taught Science as a fully qualified teacher for secondary school education and am a qualified Higher Education lecturer. I enjoy tutoring and my students have all benefited enormously from individualised support in preparation for their examinations. About the lesson

Lessons help students consolidate on their prior knowledge to develop their understanding and confidence. Lessons combine help sheets, video-clips and suitable questions to help students develop a better appreciation of the science and good exam technique. The interactive online whiteboard pages are downloaded as a revision aid at the end of the lesson. Additional practice questions can be supplied to consolidate the students' learning. All lessons are currently online using a combination of Zoom, Skype or the Bramble tuition platform for audio visual and a suitable interactive whiteboard. Students will gain the maximum benefit from using a stylus and track pad/touch screen (including i-PAD/tablet) although they can achieve as high level of interaction using their mouse and keyboard as a piece of paper if they were having face-to-face tuition.

Details

Please note that introductory sessions last up to 30 minutes and are to discuss tuition needs, suitable times and also to confirm what times would be suitable for the lessons.

Taught lessons normally are scheduled for 1 hour in duration.

It is important that the suitable tuition times have been confirmed before the introductory meeting to ensure that they work for both of our schedules.

Please use a Chrome browser to join the online lesson on a desktop or laptop computer with a camera and sound.

If you use an Apple device please avoid using Safari or an iPad as Safari causes problems with the online whiteboards and iPads are not ideal as students can only have one tab open which can present problems with the tuition.
