• When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

  I have been practising on Superprof for over a year now, and all of my students have seen a sharp increase in their educational success. Before using this platform, I was a teacher for children between 1-18 (for a year) and in my current role I work as an education officer, teaching students between 4-16. I teach both theory and practical based sessions to AQA board standard and the national curriculum up to level 2 for students of various abilities, including those with SEND needs. Furthermore, I have also undertaken certificates and diplomas up to level 4 to enhance my knowledge and support my students. I found my passion for teaching and tutoring through my work. Zookeeping has a huge educational focus, through which I discovered how much I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping people succeed (whatever this means for them).

• Which artists or works affect you the most?

  Although my skills and knowledge are influenced by my industry (Zoos) I find that I am most affected by my students. I take the time to listen to their experiences and shape our sessions in ways that will resonate with them and make learning enjoyable.

• What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

  I have found that the biggest skill to be a successful tutor is the ability to actively listen and understand. It also takes patience, empathy and enthusiasm! Learning should be fun!

• What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

  Invest your energy in ways that excited you. The more excited you are about something the more likely you are to succeed because of the effort you are willing to put in to achieve.

• How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

  Excited! I love my subject area- my industry is incredible and continually evolving. Helping people learn and achieve feels gratifying to me and like I can make a difference.

• What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

  I have published nationally recognised work (British & Irish husbandry guidelines for primate species) which was a big win in my personal career!
  
  Also- not related to my teaching/tutoring work- but another big career highlight for me was the successful, voluntary, positive-reinforcement training of our Capuchin monkey for important veterinary work & relocation.

• Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

  Yes and no- stay with me here!! I firmly believe that everyone has the ability to succeed- and success is completely individual. I often find that students tend to surprise THEMSELVES with what they can achieve in a short time, if given the right support and guidance.

• Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

  Being myself- It encourages other to do the same! By accepting everyone for who they are and encouraging them to be themselves we can have develop healthy working relationships. This enables us to learn and succeed in ways that feel fun and gratifying.
