About Erica

I graduated Suzanne Cory High School with an ATAR of 97.35 and was awarded with the Academic Excellence Award 2020. Currently, I am studying at Melbourne University and am completing a Bachelors of Commerce Degree.

My personal experience with studying:
I always felt like I was underperforming in high school, even though I studied hard, so when VCE rolled around, I decided to change my study routine. I researched HOW to study. I learnt about active recall, I learnt about spaced repetition and realised that effective studying made a huge difference. Instead of aimlessly studying, I recognised that the VCE is marked in a methodical way…if you stated the key points marks were allocated towards, you were rewarded. Understanding the importance of structure in the VCE, I actually cut down my study hours whilst improving my grades

My goals for you:
This is what I aim to teach my students, study smart not hard. Although not taught properly in schools, there is a framework, a criteria and structure to everything you do in class and as long as we identify it, we can utilise it to achieve way more in a shorter amount of time.

About the lesson

I don't approach learning with the mindset of 'more work = more results', whilst doing some homework is necessary, the focus should be on understanding the content rather than route memorisation. You can always forget something but you can never unlearn it!

For high school students, I give guidance on how to achieve high scores in exams and assignments by utilising the marking scheme, ensuring you gain all the allocated marks in the most efficient way possible. It’s not always about how long and hard you study for but how well you strategise your studying.

Using this approach, my VCE Methods and Specialist student improved her SAC scores from a D to an A. My VCE English student feels much more confident with her essays, telling me that her recent SAC was ‘the best one I’ve written’.

For younger students, I focus on making learning easy and enjoyable. I like to focus on making comparisons with familiar concepts when teaching new content so they have an intuitive understanding of the topic. Sometimes we even play games in class! I have taught over 10 primary school students and all their parents have been pleased with their improving report cards and study attitudes.
