About Mallory

My name is Mallory Tabb. I am a passionate musician, teacher, and artist. I invite you to join me in exploring the many layers of beauty and depth to be found in the musical experience.

If you are open and willing to do the work, I can take you from beginning to professional by teaching you proper technique, the mastery process, and how to practice in a way that works for your unique learning style.

And beyond the nuts and bolts of how to effectively master your instrument, I will guide you in recognizing and honoring your own unique inner wisdom as I nurture your power to grow and evolve as a human being.

Mallory Tabb is a Michigan based musician, teacher, and coach. She holds degrees in Violin Performance and Music Business from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and University of Michigan. She has also studied solo violin, chamber music, and orchestra with master teachers at Credo Chamber Music Festival, Brevard Music Festival, and Aspen Music Festival.

Mallory implements a holistic approach to teaching in order to equip students to become joyful, independent, self-motivated learners. She has taught music privately for over two decades, beginning her teaching studio at the age of 13 in Hampshire, Illinois. She is trained in the Suzuki Method, is a certified Violin Technique Method Coach, has extensive training in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and has studied with renowned pedagogues such as Mimi Zweig, Paul Kantor, and Ed Kreitman. Additionally, her teaching approach draws on concepts learned from extensive studies in non-musical modalities such as Holistic Psychology, Mindfulness, Vipassana Meditation, Emotional Healing, the Enneagram, Self-Image Psychology, Yoga, Somatic Healing and Human Design.

Outside of her private studio, she has experience teaching for a wide variety of music schools throughout the US. From 2013-2018, she served as Junior Division Coordinator for the University of Michigan String Preparatory Academy where she created and directed the implementation of private and group curriculum for highly motivated young string players.

Mallory is currently the Assistant Concertmaster of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and has served as Concertmaster of the Whitewater and Lake Geneva Symphonies. She has appeared as Guest Concertmaster of the Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Jackson Symphony Orchestras. From 2013-2023 she performed as a principal violinist with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and continues to perform frequently with the Detroit Opera Orchestra, Jackson Symphony, and Toledo Symphony. She has also performed as an orchestral musician with Utah Festival Opera, Madison Symphony, Racine Symphony, and Portland Columbia Symphony. She has appeared as a featured soloist with Lansing Symphony, Whitewater Symphony, and Lake Geneva Symphony.

Mallory lives in Ann Arbor with her dogs Dobby and Luna. When she is not teaching or playing violin, Mallory enjoys traveling, hiking, improvising on the piano, and learning more about the complexities of the human experience.

I have trained to a high level in many different modalities and am able to offer a teaching style that is sequenced, thorough, deep, and intuitively customized to the needs of each student through principals learned from Suzuki, Dalcroze, Mimi Zweig, Violin Technique Coaching Method, Galamian, Barbara Barber, and more!
