About Christopher Elijah
I am a student at Xavier High School and have some tutoring experience professionally as a Student Ambassador at Breakthrough New York, and casually with friends and family. Over time as I've grown up, I've also been invested in art as a hobby and took some classes my freshman year, sophomore year, and current year of high school. But around age 13 or 14, I started helping others and giving mini-lessons on subjects and became professional when working as an intern tutor in 2018. During that time, I tutored my mini group of 5 students but usually helped in other tutor groups within the room. When my tutees came back with results, they often saw an increase in quarter grades or on a quiz/test which always put a smile on my face. Helping others within the art studio at school especially made me happy as art became something I'd come to love and would like to pursue in college. I like to use this determination to help my students as best I can and hopefully instill a sense of determination in them for their hopes and dreams.

My teaching methods tend to be a mix of teacher-oriented with some student-oriented flair. I base my tutoring and approach on personal experience of what worked and didn't. If the students would like an adjustment, we can make those that are necessary. I don't like to be the serious type, but I do try to maintain a somewhat authoritative personality as a teacher would. I approach each topic by asking questions of the student to gauge their understanding of a subject, their personal gauge of difficulty, and provide guidance or advice based on their response. This is all to ultimately keep a balance of "chill" vibes and studious work and favor the student's comfortability to ask questions, be open, and overall pleasant.

My name is Ferni and I work with Chris as his College Placement Manager through his participation in Breakthrough New York.
Chris is a super personable, friendly individual and a cheerleader/hype person for everyone he cares about - in this case, the students he'll be tutoring! He takes time to get to know people and is a great listener. Not to mention, Chris always knows how to cheer you up whenever you're down - I know from firsthand experience! I know that Chris will be patient and thorough when it comes to supporting students during tutoring lessons.
I recommend Chris because he is a thoughtful person and takes time to talk through things. This is an important quality to have as a tutor seeing as Chris will approach challenges with patience and a listening ear.
Christopher was a tutor for Breakthrough New York's middle school after school program for one school year. In that time, Christopher was a energetic and dependable presence in our environment. Christopher built strong relationships with students and conveyed his passion for learning and growing to students on a daily basis. I recommend Christopher to all students who are looking for someone to focus on their individual needs and help get them excited about learning!
I have been Christopher's mentor for over two years at Breakthrough New York. Chris is a hardworking, compassionate, and detail-oriented student. Throughout his high school career, he has excelled in math and has tutored several fellow Breakthrough students in the subject leading to great results. I strongly recommend Christopher to other Superprof members because I know that he will put his all into his tutoring sessions and he will make it his goal to ensure that you leave a session with a better grasp of the topic you are struggling with!
Chris and I first met way back in freshman year of high school. His tutoring style is very hand-in-hand. He lets the student learn and explore on their own, but also will not hesitate to help out directly should the need arise. He's clearly serious and focused on bettering his education, but he also knows how to have fun. This is also why he'd make a great tutor; he has the focus and rigor to challenge and improve a student, but he has the humor and personality to bond with and comfort them too. He also has a clear passion for helping out those in need in any way he can. He does not feel he's moved up in the world until everyone else around him moves up with him. All this is why Chris is an excellent tutor.

Travel Cost:
Because I take public transportation, depending on how far I'd be traveling (mainly within the city but for outside circumstances like parts of upstate NY, LI, or NJ) and how much that cost comes out to, minimally I'd charge $6 to cover the basic fee of leaving from and going back to the city to get home.
Packs:
When buying a 'pack' of lessons, the customer is given an hour off per 'pack.' If you'd like to purchase more or buy a bigger 'pack,' we can discuss that more in-depth via email or text message.
