About Annabelle
My name is Annabelle, and I am a senior in high school. I have been an instructor for four years at a Sailing Center in East Boston. With this job comes a lot of responsibility. I make sure my students are safe on the water while also teaching them how to sail, paying attention to my surroundings as well as the kids on the boat. Through this job, I have also learned the best teaching strategies and how to develop the perfect lesson plans. I have taken my skills from here and put them into tutoring back at my school. For the past year, I have tutored algebra 1 and geometry students. I help them with homework, studying for tests, and just understanding certain topics. I have gotten students' grades up by more than 20%. What I realized needs the most growth is confidence-building. Once a test comes around, students become so nervous and start to blank. This is why I prioritize confidence boosting through timed practice tests and feedback.

Specifically for Geometry and Algebra 1 students (grades 7-10) For geometry, I focus on diagrams and interactive tools I connect algebra 1 and geometry to real-life examples to show relevance A typical lesson plan (60 mins): -5 min: warm-up question that reviews what we went over the class prior -15 min: concept introduction with examples and visual aids -20 min: solving problems together step-by-step -15 min: independent work while I provide feedback -5 mins: Address any questions, recap, and give out homework Before classes, I require homework or classwork so I am able to see what the student is learning in class and what they require help with. I would also like a description of what they feel are their strengths vs weaknesses. As a tutor, my main goal is to be patient and adaptive to my students' needs. I want to match exactly what they are looking for and be able to help them in any way possible. I add a strong focus on the foundations of Algebra and geometry skills, so the harder problems will become easier later.
