About Mrs Subhan

I have been teaching mathematics for over 30 years. I have taught at International A-level schools is Saudi Arabia following the British curriculum. The last was the British Dutch International School before I returned to London where I have been teaching in a small private 6th form college. I have taught the Cambridge International Examinations specifications at IGCSE,Additional Mathematics and A-level Mathematics.Whilst at these schools I have been the head of mathematics and was able to run a harmonious department thanks to the great colleagues I worked with . The maths classes were set and I was able to fast track students in year 9 so that they could sit their IGCSE in year 10 and study Additional Maths in year 11 .Needless to say that the students always achieved A* in their IGCSEmaths and not less than an A at additional maths.The class sizes were under 10 and this was a very elite school where parents supported their children’s education fully.All of my A-level maths students went to universities all over the world with many gaining scholarships to Ivy League colleges and places at Canadian universities as well as going to Imperial,UCL,Warwick,Kings College,LSE, Manchester amongst others .
On returning to London I have taught the edexcel spec and the Cambridge International spec for gcse,add maths ,a-level and further maths a-level. I am also familiar with the OCR A level as I helped my daughters with their Alevels at a top north London grammar school.Both went to top London medical schools and are currently working in London hospitals.
I enjoy working with students who enjoy mathematics and my niche is mechanics .
I have a Bsc in Physics from Kings college (2:1), I also have a MA Education ( university of Sunderland) and a PGCE.

About the lesson

After having taught for 3 decades , I don’t feel I have stopped learning . There is always something from my students every year that makes me stop and think about the way I am teaching .My youngest student has been my niece who is 7 to mature student in their mid twenties.
My approach has always been to facilitate understanding of mathematics .After all maths is communicating using symbols . I enjoy teaching all levels of students ,my only requirement is that they have to be willing learners otherwise no learning takes place. I do try and build confidence of my students by deconstructing problems and showing them that once they know what is being asked - it’s quite simple. Of course I have always taught in classroom settings and alongside have tutored one to one or on occasion group tuitions of 2-3.
I have been head of department for a long time and tend to get in with my students because I have learned to listen to people .
