  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in science early on, particularly biology, because I enjoyed understanding how things work and explaining ideas clearly. That interest led me into teaching, and later into private tutoring once I saw how effective one-to-one support can be, especially for students who need a more tailored approach than school can always offer.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach science mainly at KS3 and GCSE level, including Combined Science and Biology. I enjoy helping students secure the basics, tackle misconceptions and apply their knowledge confidently in exam questions. I also support students where literacy is a barrier, for example with exam language, vocabulary and written responses.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

The teachers who influenced me most were calm, clear and genuinely focused on whether students understood the work. They adapted explanations and encouraged independence, which has strongly shaped how I teach and tutor today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs strong subject knowledge, patience and the ability to adapt to the learner in front of them. Listening carefully, breaking learning down and building confidence are key, particularly for students who may have struggled previously.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is supporting students who believe they are “bad at science” and helping them realise that the issue is often access, not ability. Seeing confidence grow alongside understanding is always a highlight.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

A common challenge is helping students demonstrate what they know under exam conditions, particularly where literacy, processing speed or anxiety is involved. Much of my work focuses on helping students bridge that gap.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is helping learners develop confidence and independence. I am particularly interested in structured, evidence-based approaches that support long-term progress rather than short-term gains.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I combine classroom experience, senior leadership and examiner insight to offer calm, structured and practical support. My focus is on helping students understand their subject properly and apply that understanding with confidence.
