About Nandana

My name is Nandana Avasarala, and I have been a tutor for 4 years. I began tutoring middle and elementary school students when I was in high school, and quickly developed 5-6 long-term clients with whom I worked for 1+ years. All clients ended their semesters with As in math, and I now provide mathematics learning support to the Westminster Schools (an Atlanta private school) at their "Math Lab" program.

I have been involved in tutoring for several charitable organizations, including Breakthrough Atlanta, where I worked with accelerated 7th grade math students during a 7-week summer program. I have also tutored on a contract basis with Northside Tutoring, where I prepared students for the SSAT, Honors Geometry, and Honors Algebra.

About the lesson

I specialize in teaching elementary to middle school students, and I seek to provide a diverse array of teaching methods to accommodate any and all learning styles; this includes videos, color-coded diagrams, hands-on activities, and learning games.

A typical lesson will begin with a review of doubts/questions from the student's homework before diving into a new topic. When teaching a new topic, I start with key questions and then I alternate between teaching the student new concepts and giving them the chance to do guided practice. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lesson, and are provided with the full notes from the session for them to reference in their homework. I end the session by providing materials and resources for students to practice with at home if they need.

I always bring real-world applications into my teaching, as well as integrate skills like note-taking, critical thinking, and asking questions into my curriculum.

I believe that a good tutor doesn't just teach material, but also makes students excited about learning it and gives them the tools to engage with the topic outside of our tutoring session.
