About Catherine
I am currently in my third year of university at Durham, I recently came back from my year abroad which I spent in Cuba and Argentina. I took Spanish at GCSE level, International Baccalaureate and it is currently my degree at University. I have had experience teaching Spanish to primary school children aged (5-7), as well as teaching English in Spain as an Aupair to two Spanish children. Both experiences were valuable in helping to develop my teaching skills and in learning how to tailor teaching to the child/person.

I am friendly and reliable with a passion for the Spanish language. I am open to tutor people throughout the English education system including Key stage 1,2 and 3, GCSE, A level and the International Baccalaureate. I also offer lessons for anyone of all ages that wants to learn Spanish in a more relaxed manner outside of an educational system, for example, conversational Spanish classes.
Lesson Outline:
I don't have a rigid lesson plan as I believe learning should be catered to the student and what works best for them but here are examples of my approach for each area of class that I offer:
Key stage 1,2,3: My main aim for this level is to make Spanish fun and interesting, including a lot of games and visual learning to achieve the expectations of these levels. At these Beginner levels, my main focus will be building a strong foundation of the Spanish language which can then be built upon and made more complex.
GCSE: At GCSE level there are clear guidelines to follow to achieve the best grades that you can, at this level I would like to start off reinforcing the basics and then working on each area (reading, writing, speaking and listening) individually to strengthen and improve each one. Through doing GCSE Spanish myself I know a couple of tips and tricks that can really help you achieve that high grade in the exam. Not only do I want you 'to tick all the boxes' for the examiners during your exam but also achieve a level of fluency that will help you do well if you decide to choose Spanish in Sixth form or college.
A Level/ International Baccalaureate: A level and the IB also have specific guidelines to follow to achieve a high grade in the exam. We will work on what you need to do to achieve a high grade, what the examiner expects and then how to deliver it. Through doing the IB I have first-hand experience in navigating that big jump from GCSE level to sixth form, we will solidify what you already know and build on it with not only a focus on what is useful for the exams but everyday life too. I can provide useful revision materials, websites, and revision tactics that helped me achieve a high grade at this level.
Conversational Spanish: For these more relaxed lessons, the lesson plan can be completely up to you. My suggestions would include picking a topic and discussing/debating about it, reading a book and then sharing our thoughts on it, playing devil's advocate, watching a Spanish film and reviewing it. The opportunities are endless and the main aim is to practice and speak as much Spanish as possible!
Adult Beginner/Intermediate Spanish: For these classes, the main aim isn't to tick boxes in an exam, so the guidelines will be more flexible and fluid. We will work on all main areas of the language (listening, speaking, reading and writing) through many different mediums (podcasts, movies, books, series, blogs..) to obtain the highest level of fluency for you as possible.
