About Hannah
I am a medieval historian, currently working on a DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford. I have completed the Faculty of History's Training in Lecturing and PLTO courses, which enable me to teach and lecture.
I have taught tutorials at Oxford for a year, and teach in summer schools in Oxford which are primarily for students aged 16-18. I have several years of teaching experience. I completed my BA in English and History at Royal Holloway, University of London, and I completed my Master's in History at Queen's University Belfast. Prior to starting my DPhil at Oxford, I worked as an editor, bookseller, and private tutor.

In my lessons, I introduce students to the concepts of working with primary sources and using those sources to interpret and analyze bigger themes in history. I primarily use the Oxford tutorial method, which relies on reading sources, writing essays, and discussing them in individual sessions so that students can critically think on the themes being introduced and learn to write coherent, structured essays on various topics. I primarily teach high school and undergraduate-level, but am able to teach middle school. I have myself taken AP history courses, and can help tutor for exams in those subjects.
A typical lesson would involve the student reading through materials I send beforehand and therefore come in prepared to ask questions and discuss the material. Depending on the student's needs, I may give a small lecture or prepare helpful study guides to further emphasize certain themes. It is very important to allow students the ability to think critically and assess the sources for themselves. Through our discussion-based tutorials, I aim to give students this opportunity to improve their critical thinking and writing skills while discussing history.
