About Cheryl

Who I Am
I’m a historian with a deep fascination for the early modern world—its politics, its beliefs, and the people who shaped it. After completing my PhD in 2023, I realised that what I enjoy most is helping others discover the excitement and complexity of the past. Teaching has always been the part of academic life that energises me the most, and tutoring allows me to work closely with students, understand how they think, and support them as they grow in confidence and skill.

Why I Teach
I teach because I believe history becomes meaningful when students feel empowered to question, analyse, and form their own interpretations. Watching someone move from uncertainty to clarity—whether in understanding a difficult concept or crafting a strong argument—is incredibly rewarding. Tutoring gives me the chance to guide that process in a personalised, thoughtful way.

I also know how challenging the jump from GCSE to A-level, or from A-level to university, can be. I want to make that transition smoother by giving students the tools, structure, and confidence they need to succeed. Ultimately, I teach because I want students to feel capable, curious, and genuinely excited about the past.

I’ve taught seminars at the University of East Anglia on topics such as:
• Witchcraft and the Supernatural
• Historical Methodology

I bring this university-level expertise directly into my tutoring, offering tailored support for A-level, undergraduate, and postgraduate students who want to deepen their understanding, improve their grades, and build confidence in their historical thinking.
My Approach to Tutoring

I teach history as a discipline built on curiosity, critical thinking, and clear argumentation. My sessions typically include:
• Guided discussion to help you think like a historian rather than memorise facts

• Structured essay planning to strengthen argument, clarity, and writing style
• Exam-focused strategies for A-level students
• Feedback-driven learning, with detailed commentary on your written work
• Tailored content, designed around your syllabus, interests, and goals
Lesson Length
Most sessions run for 60 minutes, though I also offer 90-minute deep-dive sessions for essay support, revision planning, or university-level content.
