About Sofia
Hi, I'm Sofia Detjen—a current student at Harvard College studying political science and history, and a D1 rower. I’ve worked with students across a range of subjects, from ACT prep and math to history and writing. I also bring experience from research roles at the Harvard Kennedy School and Hudson Institute, where I focused on national security and political analysis. As a tutor, I’m committed to helping students feel confident in their abilities. I tailor each session to your needs—whether that means breaking down tricky math problems, building stronger essays, or preparing strategically for a big exam. I value clarity, structure, and curiosity, and I work to create a supportive space where you can ask questions, make progress, and even enjoy the process. Outside of academics, I love hiking, cooking, listening to music, and rowing. I believe in a balanced, thoughtful approach to learning, and I bring that energy into every session. Whether you're aiming for a top test score or just trying to feel less stressed about school, I'm here to help you succeed.

As a tutor, I bring an adaptable, relationship-focused approach grounded in my studies in political science and history at Harvard, as well as my experience tutoring ACT prep, high school math, and writing. I tailor each session to the student’s needs—breaking down complex concepts, using real-world examples, and encouraging students to actively explain material back to me to reinforce understanding.
A typical session starts with a brief review, followed by focused work on new or challenging material, and ends with a quick summary or reflection. My teaching emphasizes both skill-building and confidence, especially for students balancing rigorous academics with other commitments.
I work best with high school and early college students preparing for the ACT or needing support in math, writing, or humanities. Whether the goal is boosting test scores or mastering coursework, I meet students where they are and help them move forward with clarity and confidence.
