About Erin
I have a BA in History with a minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Christopher Newport University, and a background in field archaeology that taught me how history is actually discovered and interpreted — not just memorized from a textbook. Over a decade of homeschooling multiple children through everything from ancient civilizations to modern American history has made me a genuinely adaptable teacher who knows how to reach students with different learning styles, attention spans, and levels of motivation. I work with students on AP US, World, and European History, SAT/ACT writing prep, college-level history essays, college application essays, geography, philosophy, religious studies, and homeschool curriculum support. If you are looking for a tutor who takes ideas seriously and helps students think more clearly and write more confidently, I would love to work with your student.

My approach is Socratic at heart — I ask questions as much as I answer them, because the goal isn't just to transfer information but to build the kind of critical thinking that serves students long after our session ends. History and the humanities aren't subjects you memorize; they're subjects you learn to argue, interpret, and write about with confidence.
A typical lesson begins by identifying exactly where a student is stuck — whether that's a confusing concept, a weak thesis, a looming essay deadline, or a gap in foundational knowledge. From there we work through the material together, with me modeling how a historian actually thinks: how to read a source critically, how to construct an argument from evidence, and how to revise a draft until it says what the student actually means.
What sets me apart is the combination of academic training and real teaching experience. I have a BA in History with a minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies, a background in field archaeology, and over a decade of homeschooling multiple children through history and the humanities at every level. I know how to reach students who are disengaged, overwhelmed, or simply never had someone explain why any of this matters.
My lessons are for: high school students in AP US History, AP World History, and AP European History; students preparing for SAT/ACT reading and writing; college students seeking help with history essays, thesis development, argument structure, and source analysis; students working on college application essays; and homeschool families needing curriculum support in history, geography, philosophy, and religious studies.

Erin and I are great friends. We have been friends for seven years. Erin is a wonderful teacher. She is very knowledgeable and a very well-understood teacher when teaching. I have learned a lot from her about history. She is like a walking encyclopedia.
