About Tom
I have 10 years' experience of teaching History to a wide range of students; from Year 7s through to university undergraduates. This includes 5 years of teaching at a secondary school rated 'Outsanding' by Ofsted.
I have undergone extensive teacher training (PGCE and QTS) and my teaching has consistently been rated 'Outstanding'. As a result, for the past two years I have been a teacher trainer, passing on my knowledge and skills to new secondary school teachers.
I therefore have a huge amount of experience teaching a wide variety of learners, which has made me not only a very skilled and knowledgeable teacher, but also a very patient and supportive one. Rest assured, whatever your goal is, I can help you to achieve it in an engaging and friendly environment.

I have taught - and am happy to teach - a variety of students and abilities from ages 11-18, whether they are younger learners struggling with their studies, students trying to get the best grade possible in their GCSE and AS/A-Level exams, or school leavers who want a head start when they arrive at university.
I can help with catching up on work missed due to lockdown, understanding difficult topics, exam revision and exam skills, coursework, as well as academic essay-writing and research workshops.
I strive not only to help students learn what they need to succeed in school and university, but I also encourage their independence and resilience, equipping them with study skills they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
With 10 years of teaching experience - including 5 at the secondary school level - I am a very supportive and patient teacher, who will only proceed at a pace that suits you.
My lessons are 1 hour long, and are tailored to the needs of individual students.

Perfect! Thank you Tom for a great lesson! I'm currently working on a dissertation and was struggling on some more complex concepts that I need to include. Tom was great at explaining these concepts and helped me to really understand them, I feel a lot more confident already!
- Excellent analytical skills and contextual knowledge; needs to work on signposting and syntax.Tom's response :

Tom is an excellent teacher. He's taught at schools and at universities, so he's very experienced. I worked with Tom as a colleague, and was always really impressed by his work ethic and his active engagement with his students learning. His detailed knowledge of history, broad historical periods, global history, and philosophy is a real strength. As a teacher, Tom is patient and he's really good at explaining tricky ideas and concepts. He's very conscientious and really cares about his students progress. Strongly recommend.
Tom is a fantastic teacher with a real depth of knowledge about both the subject and exams. He’s also very kind and experienced in classroom settings at different stages. His advice has proved really valuable.
