About Esme

I'm an incoming History Undergraduate student at Durham University, though was working at A* level in all of my subjects for most of my time at college. I achieved eight grade 9s at GCSE, and got an overall mark of 159/160 in English Literature. Though I achieved A*AB at A Level, this is not a full reflection of my ability, and as a previous Oxford offer holder I can assure you I know the ins and outs of achieving the best grades possible. I was in fact studying four A Levels for most of the two years, including Religious Studies which I was also working at A* level.  I am hugely enthusiastic about written subjects, and eager to help those who might not feel the same at GCSE or A Level. I am also happy to offer advice on applying to Oxbridge.

I prefer student-focused activities: I will work with the student, offering them a chance to show me their writing and what they might be struggling with, and then giving them feedback and examples of how I might respond to a similar question.

Practise is also very important. I like to ensure I work with the mark scheme at hand, as I know at GCSE to reach the top marks you must fulfil the criteria as much as possible. A Level is more reliant on the student's critical and creative thinking, which I encourage and can help the student build on.

Lessons would be an hour or half an hour depending on preference.
