About Lanre
Hi, I am Lanre (rhymes with stingray). I am a 19-year-old history student currently in my first year at the University at Durham.
I am a national level basketball player, currently playing for my university's first team (I also spent years as a national swimmer before this). I also love acting, and have written my own plays, the performances of which will be on stage soon.
I am proud of my academic record. My x3 A* came with some impressive results: 91% and 96% in Economics papers 1 and 2,
- 90% and 89% in both History papers, and 87% in Politics paper 3. More recently, I won my university's Commercial Law essay competition and was fast-tracked to Hogan Lovells' First Year Open day. I wrote on a topic completely new to me: stablecoins, demonstrating my ability to process new information quickly and explain it with clarity.
Admittedly, I am a history enthusiast. My specialisms include Britain c.1783-1885, American Civil War and Reconstruction, c.1846-77, European urban culture during the fin-de-siècle, economic and military histories of West Africa in the precolonial era.
I have worn the A-level/GCSE T-shirt; it was me not long ago. I understand the potential challenges and difficulties you may face. Let's work through it together!

Your grades should not define you!
My passion for education came from reading a single poem: Frost's 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.' This moment was really powerful and I wish to help other students to be compelled in a similar way.
My ethos in teaching is about helping you reshape your approach to learning. The process of grappling with your topics to find niches that excite you, is, in my opinion, worth more than a grade. By committing to this process, invariably, you will get better at your subject.
In the subjects I teach, the fundamental skill is writing an essay that distils your argument. Lasting an hour, our sessions will strip back to basics, focusing on this key skill. Not only will I try to help you understand the practical skills of writing, but crucially, I will help you to articulate what you think - about the past, or what's in the news today.
