About Michael

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics . I scored a perfect 36 out of 36 in Mathematics and 34 out of 36 in Science on the ACT, and achieved a score of 790 out of 800 in the Mathematics section of the SAT.

While in high school and college, I engaged in tutoring, primarily assisting friends, teammates, and referrals. My tutoring experience, though informal, provided me with valuable insights into effective communication and teaching strategies. Additionally, I was an active Division 1 athlete on the SJSU Men's Water Polo team, concurrently serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Within SAAC, I organized and facilitated student-athletes' participation in charitable events benefiting both the university and the community.

Further demonstrating my commitment to education and mentorship, I served as a head coach for a local water polo club, specifically coaching the 14 and under boys' team composed of middle schoolers. My diverse experiences in mathematics, tutoring, and effective communication with students and their guardians have equipped me to provide comprehensive support. Beyond mathematics tutoring, I offer guidance in problem-solving, organization, and time management, all essential skills that contributed to my own academic achievements in college.

About the lesson

Certainly! Ensuring that students feel comfortable and confident about the subjects they struggle with is my top priority. There are various reasons why students may face challenges, such as lack of attention, failure to apply themselves, or repeating the same mistakes. Some may struggle with test anxiety, leading to underperformance due to time constraints, memory lapses, or simply a lack of confidence.

In our introductory session, each student will have the opportunity to share their insights, along with input from their parent or legal guardian. This helps me understand specific struggles and goals better. While this initial session guides our tutoring direction, it doesn't set it in stone. Students may have multiple or complex issues, which I continuously address through lesson plans. Taking meticulous notes during each session allows me to tailor future lessons to address their evolving needs effectively.

I've found this approach beneficial for students of all ages and across different subjects. However, for more challenging courses, like rigorous math or physics, the tutoring process may involve more intricate, step-by-step methods. In these cases, the types of mistakes are often different and require a more nuanced approach, which I'm equipped to provide.
