About Trenton
I bring both strong academic training and real classroom experience to my tutoring. I hold a Master’s degree in Microbiology–Immunology from Colorado State University, and I currently work as an Instructional Specialist (staff tutor) and Microbiologist. In this role, I support instruction in multiple college-level biology and chemistry courses, including General Biology, Microbiology, and the General Chemistry series. This means I regularly work directly with the same material students encounter in their classes.
Over the past several years, I have helped many students strengthen their understanding of challenging science topics through both individual and group tutoring. My work involves collaborating with faculty, reinforcing course learning objectives, and guiding students through complex concepts in both lecture and laboratory settings.
Students can expect a professional, supportive, and patient learning environment where questions are always encouraged. I take pride in being approachable and reliable, and I work hard to ensure that every session is structured, productive, and tailored to the student’s needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them build lasting confidence in their ability to understand and succeed in biology and chemistry.

My approach as a tutor focuses on building strong conceptual understanding while helping students develop the problem-solving skills needed to succeed in science courses. I believe students learn best when complex topics are broken down into clear, manageable steps. Rather than relying on memorization alone, I emphasize understanding the underlying principles in biology and chemistry so students can confidently apply them to new problems. My teaching methods include guided problem-solving, concept mapping, and active discussion. I often ask students to explain ideas in their own words, which helps reinforce learning and identify areas that need clarification. I also incorporate practice questions similar to what students encounter on exams to build familiarity and confidence.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previously challenging topics, followed by a focused explanation of key concepts. We then work through example problems together, gradually shifting toward independent practice while I provide feedback and clarification. I always encourage questions and adapt the pace of the session to the student’s needs.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my professional experience supporting college-level biology and chemistry instruction. As a professional tutor at a community college, I regularly assist in both laboratory and lecture environments and collaborate with faculty to reinforce course objectives and active learning strategies.
My lessons are designed for high school and college students, particularly those enrolled in biology or chemistry courses such as General Biology, Microbiology, Cellular Biology, and General Chemistry. I especially enjoy helping students preparing for rigorous STEM coursework or health-related programs.
