About Meghan
Hi! I have a PhD, MS and BS from Reed and Portland State University. I have been teaching and tutoring biology, anatomy and physiology, math, and stats courses for 15+ years. I also teach as a college professor at university, community college, and small, private liberal arts college. I founded and run a small nonprofit that works with zoos and international nonprofits in conservation breeding of endangered species. Academic success is largely about knowing what is being asked of you, and this is what I can help explain having been a teacher and worked individually with students in one-on-one and small-group tutoring sessions for so long.

To me, tutoring is by far the most effective way to learn. More than half of the battle is gaining confidence and understanding how to read questions and what is being asked of you and this happens so much more organically in a dynamic, interactive learning environment.
My approach is both holistic and personalized -- tailored to meet the challenges facing the student. For mathematical content, for example, the aversion to math is itself as much of an obstacle as the struggle with the material. I meet everybody where they are, and build from there. Sometimes that just means a little moral support and confirmation going through the work; other times it can be more in-depth discussion of material and how it connects more broadly or even in some cases, motivational coaching.
I believe strongly in practice problems and walking through exercises to gain confidence and understand the process. This helps ground everything in pragmatic terms, but also allows for discussion of the content and how it all connects.

Meg has been a LONG time mentor of mine and taught me so much about what it is to be a strong woman in STEM. I was lucky enough to meet her when I got to intern for her in China for data collection on giant panda maternal behavior. I later on went to graduate with my masters from UC Davis in the discipline of applied animal welfare and I couldn’t have done it without her. She will always be an inspiration to me!
After several years of knowing Meghan, I cannot recommend her enough! Being one of her interns I can confirm that Meghan is a very approachable and kind soul, who is happy to take the time to explain topics to improve understanding. She is an incredible teacher and a fantastic resource to any program. Meghan has been an extraordinary mentor and a supportive teacher who thrives on seeing her students succeed. If you have the opportunity to take her class, do not hesitate!
I interned with Meghan in 2016 and really loved my experience. I recently got back in touch with Meghan over lockdown, at which point she offered me a 1 to 1 internship to help me get back into my chosen career path (which she didn’t have to and I wasn’t expecting)
I honestly feel a lot more confident applying or seeking out work in my chosen field and that is solely down to the mentoring, patience, time and knowledge Meghan has imparted to help me.
Meghan is not only a brilliant mentor but a good friend which makes understanding tricky concepts (e.g R) that much easier! For which I will always be grateful!
Meghan is amazing at explaining confusing concepts and really breaking them down so you understand. She truly cares about getting her students to “get” the material so that they can apply it in different settings. She never makes you feel bad because you need something explained multiple times. She’s also very friendly and easy to talk to!
