  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

I only realised how much I enjoy tutoring once I started helping others while upgrading my own Matric. I saw how explaining concepts to others helped me understand better too. Later, I started offering tutoring more formally because I genuinely wanted to help students who feel left behind, especially in townships where quality education isn't always accessible.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and English for Grade 12 students. In Maths, I enjoy working through algebraic expressions and problem-solving topics. In Physics, I like teaching about momentum, Newton's Laws, and electricity. Those topics open up room for practical understanding.I do find some abstract ones a bit harder to get students excited about until we find a way to relate it to real life.
  • Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?

Not really a specific teacher, but the lack of support I had in certain subjects actually pushed me to become the tutor I wish I had. I wanted to fill in those gaps for other learners (be someone they could rely on academically and emotionally.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs to be patient, flexible, and truly willing to learn from their students too. I think understanding why a student is struggling is just as important as helping them improve. You also have to care, not just about marks, but about how they feel, how they think, and what might be blocking them.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?

There was a student I tutored who had completely given up on Maths. They were barely passing and didn't believe they were capable of more. We started from scratch, going through basic algebra and gradually building confidence. A few months later, they got over 70% for the first time. I'll never forget their smile that day. Iy made all the late nights and early mornings worth it.
  • Did you face any difficulties at school or university?

Yes, quite a few. I didn't attend a public university; instead, I've been training for my commercial pilot license, which comes with its own financial and mental pressures. I've also had to juggle tutoring, studying, and managing my own learning facility with limited resources. It's been tough but very character-building.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

I'm passionate about creating opportunities. I want to use tutoring not just to teach, but to build something bigger; like training other struggling students to become tutors themselves, so they can earn and grow while helping others. I'm also very passionate about aviation and I'm working towards becoming a commercial pilot.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I'm not here just to tick boxes or go through the syllabus. I try to understand each student's situation and adjust my teaching to meet them where they are. I also run my own small tutoring centre and am creating a system where other youth can tutor with support and structure. It's about creating impact, not just income.
