About Ibnu
Hi, I'm Ibnu. I hold a PhD in Law from the University of Canterbury and have been teaching and tutoring law at university level for several years. I've taught a range of subjects, including Contract Law, the Law of Torts, Introduction to New Zealand Commercial Law, International Law, and International Environmental Law, and I've worked with students from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.
I decided to become a tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping students succeed. During my own studies, I experienced firsthand how much of a difference a supportive teacher can make. I know that studying law can sometimes feel overwhelming, and I want to help students gain the confidence to understand complex legal concepts rather than simply memorizing them.
My teaching style is patient, approachable, and practical. I aim to create a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their legal reasoning skills. Seeing students grow in confidence and achieve results they didn't think were possible is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

Everyone learns differently, so lessons are designed around each student's individual needs, pace, and learning style. The aim is not just to help students get the right answer, but to build their confidence and help them understand the reasoning behind the law. Students are encouraged to ask questions, discuss ideas, and work through legal problems together in a relaxed and supportive environment.
A typical lesson lasts 50 minutes and usually begins with any questions the student has from lectures or readings. From there, we work through key concepts, case law, and practical examples before applying them to problem questions or exam-style scenarios. Sessions can also focus on assignment feedback, exam preparation, or any topics that students find particularly challenging.
I hold a PhD in Law from the University of Canterbury and have several years of experience tutoring Contract Law, Introduction to New Zealand Commercial Law, International Law, and International Environmental Law. Having taught and supported students at university level, I understand that law can sometimes feel overwhelming, and I enjoy helping students break complex topics into manageable, easy-to-understand concepts.
