Hey y'all! I’m Shauna L. Howard, a passionate and experienced vocal coach dedicated to helping you unlock your true voice. With a background in opera, contemporary music, and Latin dance, I bring a unique, multi-genre perspective to vocal performance. My teaching method is rooted in holistic vocal health, incorporating positive psychology, social-emotional learning (SEL), and anti-racism principles. I focus on creating healthy, confident, and emotionally resilient vocalists by addressing the connection between mind, body, and voice. Key elements of my approach include:

1. Vocal Psychology: Helping singers understand how emotions and mental states influence their vocal performance.
2. Alignment and Chakras: Teaching singers to align their posture and breath with vocal production, emphasizing the role of energy centers in the body.
3. Individualized Instruction: Tailoring lessons to each singer’s goals, vocal range, and preferred genres.
4. Creative Expression: Encouraging singers to explore their artistic identity while building technical skills.
5. Cultural Awareness: Integrating global music styles and honoring diverse traditions in vocal performance.

A Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Check-In (5 minutes): Begin with a SEL-inspired check-in to gauge the singer's emotional and physical state. This could include a brief mindfulness exercise or journaling prompt.
2. Warm-Up (10 minutes): Incorporate exercises for breath control, vocal range, and resonance, customized to the singer's voice type and needs.
3. Technique Building (15 minutes): Focus on a specific technical aspect, such as vowel shaping, dynamic control, or agility, tied to the student’s goals.
4. Repertoire Work (20 minutes): Work on a chosen piece, blending technical instruction with emotional interpretation and stage presence.
