My teaching method is based on a customized approach for each and every student, emphasizing technical brilliance and learning specific skills the right way from the very beginning. I prioritize development of outstanding technique first and foremost; from this starting point a student can then learn to incorporate expressiveness and draw the emotion from the keys.
I begin the lesson with the specific pieces of music that the student is learning; that way they can immediately dive into the music that they are interested in playing--this is the more fun part of the lesson. The goal is to develop a knowledge and technical mastery of the piece line by line, one hand at a time, and if progress allows, to combine the hands together, but everything done one section at a time. Near the end of the lesson, we will tackle scales, progressive runs, and other more tedious technical exercises that will allow the student to create a masterful control of the keys.
